Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey orders flags at half-staff in honor of 9/11 victims

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered flags be flown at half-staff at state office buildings in remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks 17 years ago.
Flags were to remain at half-staff Tuesday from sunrise to sunset.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks, when al-Qaida terrorists hijacked four passenger planes and flew them into the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 2001.

“On that day, the world watched as our country lost nearly 3,000 lives in the greatest act of violence and terrorism ever perpetrated on American soil.
“Seventeen years removed, images and memories of the attacks are still fresh in our minds. …
“As we reflect on September 11, 2001, let us stand firm in our nation’s ideals and ensure that we never forget the lessons of that day.
“And may that day serve as a reminder to the world that the resolve of the American people will never be broken.”
Ducey also signed a proclamation on Tuesday to declare it as “Patriot Day” and the entire week as “Patriotism Week.”
