PHOENIX — A woman has been arrested after officers discovered her involvement with transporting drug-laced letters through the Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix.
Natasha Geach was arrested on Tuesday after Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives uncovered methamphetamine-laced letters were used to transport the drugs through the jail, according to a press release.
Geach is accused of spraying liquid methamphetamine onto legal papers before sending them into the jail through the post office.
“Numerous evidence and contraband” were found in the jail cells of at least four inmates. They could face additional felony charges for promoting prison contraband, as well as other drug-related charges.
In response to the discovery, Sheriff Joe Arpaio has advocated for the drug testing of inmates. According to the release, Arpaio said he hopes the move will determine the extent of illegal drug use and trafficking in state jails.
“If you can’t stop the drug activity in jail, how can we hope to solve the problem on the streets?” the release read.
