Arizonans urged to get ready for monsoon storms

Jun 9, 2012, 9:57 AM | Updated: 10:56 am

PHOENIX — Arizona’s summer rainy season has yet to arrive, but state
officials wants residents to prepare for the start of severe afternoon
thunderstorms that produce lightning, high winds and flash flooding.

A proclamation by Gov. Jan Brewer designates June 10 to 15 as “monsoon
awareness week.”

The Arizona Division of Emergency Management recommends that families
identify a meeting place, account for members’ special needs and designate
an out-of-town contact.

Authorities also recommend that families and individuals prepare emergency
kits that include first aid supplies, food, water and a radio, along with a “go
kit” of important documents, cash and phone charger.
