PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police shot and killed an armed man who was allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend hostage in her home.

Police spokesman Trent Crump says the shooting happened around 9 a.m. at a house near 43rd Avenue and Northern.

According to Crump, the suspect followed the victim home around 1 a.m. and kept her trapped inside for several hours.

The victim triggered a silent alarm that alerted authorities.

Crump says officers were able to get her out of the house and a police dog found the suspect in a laundry room of another home.

The suspect allegedly took out a revolver and at least one officer fired a shot.

The suspect returned fire. Several officers then shot him.

No officers were injured.

The neighborhood will be closed off for several hours.
