PHOENIX — The Arizona Attorney General’s Office said Friday that Arizonans should be on the lookout for the first round of payouts from the office’s settlement with Volkswagen.
More than 2,700 people are expected to receive an initial payment of $964, according to a news release.
A second batch of checks will be mailed in November, and the last round in January.
All checks must be cashed within 90 days, and no further action is required on the consumer’s part.

The Environmental Protection Agency discovered in 2015 that Volkswagen had been misleading the government and consumers with its “clean diesel” claims by programming its vehicles to cheat on emissions tests.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office sued the company for false advertising in 2016 and reached a $40 million settlement in May.
Half of that settlement was earmarked to replace aging school buses and fund other education needs, while $10.5 million is being paid directly to consumers.
Arizonans who bought or leased certain Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche diesel models from 2008 to 2015 may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 per vehicle.
The deadline to submit an eligibility claims form is Nov. 26.
