PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation said there will be a closure of Interstate 10 westbound in west Phoenix this weekend as work continues on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange project.

The I-10 westbound between 51st and 67th avenues were closed from 10 p.m. Friday night until around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, ADOT announced.

The westbound on-ramps at 35th and 43rd avenues are expected to be shut down until 5 a.m. Sunday for bridgework in the area.

Traffic can detour on McDowell Road, Van Buren Street or the new I-10 access road in the area.

Westbound I-10 also was scheduled to be narrowed to one lane, with intermittent closures overnight, between 51st and 59th avenues from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The South Mountain Freeway will add 22 miles of freeway connecting the West Valley and East Valley. Construction started last year and is expected to be completed late in 2019.

ADOT also planned two restrictions on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway in the East Valley for installation of traffic-management technology:

• Eastbound 202 will be closed between Power and Hawes roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Traffic exiting at Power can detour on eastbound Ray Road and northbound Hawes to return to the freeway.

• Eastbound/northbound 202 will be closed between Hawes and Elliot roads from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. The State Route 24 ramp to eastbound Loop 202 also will be closed. Traffic exiting at Hawes can detour on eastbound Ray, northbound Ellsworth Road and westbound Elliot to resume on northbound 202.

Additional restriction information will be posted at azdot.gov.
