A total of 16 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested by deputies over the past two days, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

In two separate incidents, deputies chased a suspect vehicle into the desert. One suspect received a laceration to the head during one of the chases. Fourteen total suspects were arrested in the chases.

In another incident, deputies spotted men loading marijuana into a vehicle. After short pursuit, two men were arrested, two escaped and 120.5 lbs. of marijuana was seized.

All of the Mexican-national suspects admitted to having paid between $2,000 and $3,500 to be smuggled into the United States and had numerous destinations.
