Child on bicycle struck on Halloween dies

Nov 2, 2012, 2:37 PM | Updated: 2:42 pm

An 11-year-old girl died on Friday after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bike on Halloween, the Phoenix Police Department said in a release.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said she was coming home from school when she was at a crosswalk near Indian School and 19th Avenue when she rode from a protected median into the roadway without waiting for traffic to stop.

“Both her and her father were on bicycles. The child was struck by a car and knocked off of her bike and then struck by a second vehicle,” Crump said. “Both those vehicles were traveling westbound on Indian School.”

Both drivers were not injured and both were found to not be impaired.

Police are investigating the incident and no citations have been issued.
