Fatal wrong-way crash closes part of Loop 303 in Surprise for hours

PHEONIX — A fatal wrong-way crash in Surprise closed part of the Loop 303 freeway for hours overnight, officials said.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday and closed the northbound lanes at Bell Road, approaching the U.S. 60 in the West Valley, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

Lanes were reopened around 4 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

DPS said callers had reported the wrong-way driver before it collided with the other vehicle.

No other details were made available, including how many people died.
