PHOENIX – The president of Goodyear’s planning and zoning commission was selected Tuesday to fill an opening on the West Valley suburb’s city council.
Patrick Bray will be sworn in Monday to the seat vacated when Joe Pizzillo was appointed to succeed Mayor Georgia Lord after her death two months ago.
“This is a great opportunity for me to further my public service within the city and continue to be a part of a growing community,” Bray said in a press release.
“We’re a sizable city with a small-town feel, and I feel that’s a special thing. I want to continue to build on that.”
Bray, an Arizona native who has lived in Goodyear since 2008, has served on the city’s planning and zoning commission for nine years, including the last five as president.
The City Council selected him from a field of 23 applicants, five of whom reached the interview stage.
“Patrick Bray has a wealth of experience in serving the city, which really stood out to me when making this decision,” Pizzillo said in the release.
“He has a great understanding of the issues facing Goodyear and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the city council to continue to build upon our success.”
Bray’s appointed term runs through Dec. 31, 2022.
Lord, Goodyear’s first female mayor, died on Dec. 12, 2021. Five days later, the City Council unanimously voted to appoint Pizzillo to be the mayor.
