16-year-old girl dies after getting shot Sunday night in west Phoenix

PHOENIX – Police are trying to find the person who shot two teenagers, killing one, in west Phoenix on Sunday night.
Officers responded to a report of two people being shot near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road in the Maryvale neighborhood around 11:30 p.m., the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.
A 16-year-old girl was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and later died of her injuries, police said. The other victim, an 18-year-old man, was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.
Police said the two were in a vehicle when they were shot.
Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and who pulled the trigger.
