PHOENIX – Police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred Monday night in Phoenix.

The suspects remain outstanding in both cases, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Officers responded to the first incident just after 7 p.m. near 16th and Roosevelt streets. Witnesses there said a man had been asking for directions to the closest medical facility because his friend had been shot.

The victim, 31-year-old Joshua Hernandez Jr., was later located at a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Less than an hour later, a call came in about a shooting near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Responding officers learned that a large group of people had gathered when an unknown male fired a handgun, striking two men.

Adam Martinez, 42, was in critical condition when he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other man was hospitalized with an injury that wasn’t considered life-threatening.

Investigators are looking for witnesses in both cases and trying to determine what led to the shootings.
