PHOENIX – All available COVID-19 vaccine appointments at Arizona’s state-run sites were snapped up within 20 minutes of the minimum age requirement dropping to 16 on Wednesday morning.

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, COVID-19 vaccine eligibility was extended to all adults at state-run sites and other points of dispensing in Maricopa County, with the age cutoff set at 16 for the Pfizer vaccine and 18 for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson shots.

By 8:20 a.m., all of this week’s remaining appointments for state-run sites were filled, the Arizona Department of Health Services said.

The next batch of about 80,000 spots at the state’s five mass vaccination sites — State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Phoenix Municipal Stadium, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, University of Arizona and Yuma Civic Center — is set to be released Friday morning.

The state opens appointments for the following week every Friday at 11 a.m.

Appointments at the state-operated sites can be made online at https://podvaccine.azdhs.gov/ or by calling the 844-542-8201 registration hotline.

For other Valley availability, the Maricopa County Public Health website has a COVID-19 vaccine finder with a map and list of pharmacies, government-run sites, health clinics and pop-up distribution events along with links to the applicable registration pages.

Spots can open at any time through any of the providers because of cancellations and additional vaccine deliveries, so vaccine seekers should continue checking any or all of the registration portals regularly.

More than a quarter of Arizona’s total population has received at least one COVID-19 shot as of Wednesday morning.

The state health department’s dashboard showed that 2,979,531 vaccine doses have been administered, with 1,882,931 people (26.2% of the population) having received at least one shot and 1,165,151 people fully vaccinated.

We want to hear from you.
