PHOENIX — Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff announced this week that the ski resort will continue to operate until April 29.
The announcement came after a season that didn’t see much snowfall until late into the winter due to high temperatures.
Despite crews that started making snow in September, Snowbowl was forced to push back its opening date twice due to the record-setting warm weather.
The ski resort did a complete 180 compared to last year, when it had its earliest opening in 40 years because of the heavy snowfalls.
Last year, it also had its largest snowfall in 12 years — more than 27 feet — and was open until May 7.
As of March, the resort had not received even eight feet of snow, with none of the white stuff falling in the past week.
It only had 78 percent of its runs open.
With the extension, the resort was offering reduced prices starting at just $29 for full-day lift tickets. It also offered free lift tickets to kids 7 and under, and people 70 and older.
Free lodging was being offered to customers who buy one, two or four of its non-discounted lift tickets.
The resort replaced an old ski lift and opened a new restaurant on its mountain this year.
