Avondale home explosion injures 3

PHOENIX — Three people are injured after there was a fiery explosion at an Avondale, Ariz., home early Sunday morning that blew the garage door off.

Avondale police said a woman walked into the home’s with a lit cigarette while two men were handling a type of chemical, causing an explosion around 1:30 a.m.

Police are still trying to figure out what the flammable material was. The fire has been extinguished and the damage was all contained within the garage, police said.

There were two adults and three children inside the house that were not injured by the explosion.

Police said the victims’ burns on their faces and arms are serious, but not life threatening. The woman and the two men were transported to a local burn center.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause.
