Study: Arizona has harshest DUI laws in the nation

Jun 16, 2015, 4:13 PM | Updated: 4:14 pm

PHOENIX — Arizona has the harshest drinking and driving laws in the nation, a study said.

Arizona’s 10-day minimum jail time for first-time offenders is the harshest in the nation while the 90-day minimum sentence was the third-strictest for second-time offenders, WalletHub said.

In all the categories the website took into consideration — minimum jail time and fine for both the first and second offense, license suspension, average insurance hike and how long an older DUI factors into penalties — Arizona never ranked below 15th in the nation.

Arizona may crackdown on drunk drivers, but WalletHub said the state also ranked second in the nation for its preventative efforts.
