PHOENIX — For the second time in three months, Mesa residents reported they were having troubles with their tap water.
But despite the water’s cloudy appearance, officials said it was safe to drink.
“The city of Mesa’s water continues to meet all state and federal drinking water standards,” Mesa Water Resources Department spokeswoman Kathy MacDonald said Wednesday.
MacDonald said residents who live north of Baseline Road between the Loop 101 and Val Vista Road will likely see some sort of cloudiness in their water between November and January.
“[The cloudiness] is caused by small air bubbles in the water that result when we switch from surface water to ground water production wells to perform routine treatment plant maintenance,” MacDonald said.
In August, residents complained that Mesa’s water had an odd smell and taste. At the time, MacDonald said that was caused by a seasonal algae that forms in surface water.
She also said the water was safe to drink and the issue was only temporary.
Mesa’s water treatment plant was using carbon treatment to reduce the algae in the water distribution system.
