PHOENIX — A Salt River Project employee recently saved a Phoenix-area family’s day, but it had nothing to do with restoring the power.
Kyle Denley said he was working in the area of Queen Creek and Higley roads in Gilbert last month when he spotted a frantic woman.
“I pulled alongside of her and rolled down my passenger window and asked her if everything was all right,” Denley said. “She asked me if I had seen a little boy and I said, ‘No, I haven’t seen anybody. How old is he?’ And she said, ‘He’s 3 years old.”
The woman said she was looking for her grandson, Brody, who had been missing for about 15 minutes. Denley told the woman to go search the house while he looked around the neighborhood.
A short time later, Denley spotted Brody playing in front of a house that was under construction.
“There was a big mound of dirt in the driveway and he was happy as could be playing in the dirt,” he told SRP’s website.
Denley said he was glad to help find the child and was unsure if he would have been able to leave if Brody had not been found safe.
“We’re taught to be safe, we’re taught to be aware,” he said. “It’s just part of my job and my commitment for that day. I didn’t think I was going to be using it. You never know when you’re going to be presented with a situation like that.”
