Generosity and caring were all around as the Mac & Gaydos’ annual Caring for Kids event, presented by Canyon State Credit Union, amounted to thousands of donations — all for a great cause.

Listeners made donations that ranged from money to diapers at two locations on Friday afternoon that will benefit two worthy organizations, Child Crisis Arizona and Arizona Helping Hands.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos were on hand at the Kohl’s location near 55th Avenue and Bell Road while the morning news team of Jayme West and Jim Sharpe helped collect donations at a Kohl’s in Scottsdale on Raintree Drive.

In one instance, a man, who wished to be anonymous, donated “a wad” of $100 bills on the east side. In a separate donation, Mac & Gaydos reported another man handed over a $50 donation.

But not all donations came from passersby.

Canyon State Credit Union CEO Jane Dobbs told Mac & Gaydos the organization reached about 200,000 diapers donated — up 50,000 from this time last year.

“At the end of the day, we are really serving the community and the children,” Dobbs said. “And these children are going to grow up and be the people who are going to lead this country and we want to make sure we are providing the best kind of items for them.”

Child Crisis Arizona provides hope and services to vulnerable children and families. Child Crisis Arizona operates the only emergency shelters for children in the Valley, is a leading resource to license, train and support foster and adoptive families and provides early childhood education through a preschool, parenting classes, workshops and playgroups.

Arizona Helping Hands assists foster families who have provided a safe environment for children in the Arizona Department of Child Safety system.

It’s not too late if you missed out on Friday’s events. You can make a donation at childcrisisaz.org or azhelpinghands.org.

We want to hear from you.
