‘Bad Lip Reading’ takes on the first GOP presidential debate

Aug 19, 2015, 12:34 PM

In the back of our minds, we all were hoping something like this would happen: The people behind the “Bad Lip Reading” series on YouTube put their own spin on the first Republican presidential debate and it could hardly be funnier.

The debate saw 12 candidates square off in Cleveland. While the spotlight remained on billionaire businessman-turned-presidential candidate Donald Trump, local political analysts said several other people deserved applause, from Ohio Gov. John Kasich to the Fox News moderators.

While the debates are important to the 2016 presidential race, it sets us all up to watch a lot of political silliness for the next 15 months, which is why this clip is so welcome. Sometimes, a dose of intended humor helps break up the rhetoric and arguments to give us all a bit of a chuckle. And after all, who doesn’t appreciate a good laugh every once in a while?

If you need us, we’ll be over here laughing at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul debating over childhood snacks and Dr. Ben Carson’s puzzle, along with his best-selling debate song, stealing the show.

That will make a lot more sense when you watch the video above.
