Silver Alert ends for 85-year-old man suffering from dementia

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Public Safety ended a Silver Alert from the Chandler Police department for an 85-year-old man named Samuel Contreras.

The man went missing from his group home located near the corner of Washington Street and Chandler Boulevard.

Contreras was found dead a few blocks away in a canal on Chandler Boulevard and Cooper Road.

He was only at the group home for four days and was unfamiliar with the area in Chandler.

Police suspected he might be trying to return to his family in Mesa or board a bus to Mexico.
