PHOENIX — A Marcos de Niza High School senior’s artwork will zip around the Valley for the next year after she won the 2016 Valley Metro Design a Transit Wrap contest.

Cami Lintz’ winning design and slogan, “For Our Future For Our Home” were showcased Tuesday at Marcos de Niza in a ceremony attended by Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell and Valley Metro CEO Scott Smith.

Her artwork will be featured on a light rail train and bus until next year’s contest.

“I think I want to minor in art now,” Lintz said in a press release. “I’ve never had my art on display. You never think you are good at art, until others validate it. This is my validation.”

More than 110 students from across the Valley entered the 16th annual contest, where students were encouraged to create artwork that promotes public transit from their point of view.

Lintz said her design focused on the Arizona flag and Arizona culture, and that she hopes it inspires people to use public transportation to save the Arizona landscape.

“I kind of want my design to pull people together from different races, different places, different ages, different times into one common theme, which is Arizona,” Lintz said.

Ruben Escobar, a sophomore at Marcos de Niza, won second place and received $250 for his design.

The third place winner, Central High School freshman, Kassandra Hernandez received $100.

We want to hear from you.
