Police investigate over-the-counter laxative tampering incident at Scottsdale Walmart

Jun 30, 2022, 9:52 AM | Updated: 12:15 pm

PHOENIX – Police said Wednesday they are investigating a drug tampering incident involving over-the-counter laxatives sold at a Scottsdale Walmart.

A package of Equate laxative tablets was found to contain a prescription-only anti-depressant medication, the Scottsdale Police Department said in a press release.

The person who bought the item at the Walmart near Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Hayden Road called police on Tuesday and reported getting sick after ingesting the pills.

Officers found another box of the laxative on the shelf that appeared to have been tampered with. They removed it and are testing the contents.

Anybody who purchased items that may have been tampered with from Walmart or other stores should call the Scottsdale Police Department’s non-emergency number at 480-312-5000.

Consumers should always carefully inspect over-the-counter medications before using them, police said.

We want to hear from you.
