Faith in Humanity: New York woman gives own shoes to homeless woman on subway

‘Tis the season for giving, and one New York woman decided to sacrifice her own comfort to help someone in need.
Kay Brown was riding the subway on Nov. 16 when she noticed a “homeless, mentally handicapped” woman step on without any shoes, according to her Facebook post.

Brown asked the woman what shoe size she was and, surprisingly, it was the same as her own. So Brown said she decided to give the woman her shoes, which she said “fit perfectly.”
After riding the subway for 15 minutes in “mixed matched socks,” Brown said a gentleman offered her an extra pair of socks to warm her own feet with, starting a chain of kindness in the hustling and bustling city.
In the now-viral Facebook post, Brown said the act of kindness was the least she could do.
“You see, I can buy another pair of shoes tomorrow,” she said. “It’s the middle of November and she has no where to go, so the least I could do is give her a pair of shoes. So, I walked 6 blocks home in socks getting strange looks and comments made about me…but now she’s able to wear a pair of shoes each day and suffer a little less.”
Now, Brown is advocating for others to pay it forward in anyway they can. Since the post went viral, Brown has been involved in several other charity efforts, including donating $500 worth of clothes to a New York women’s shelter.
Like Brown, let’s all decide to take a little time out of our days and pay it forward to someone in need today.
