Columbine principal has memorable final school assembly

Eighteen years ago, when Frank DeAngelis took a job as a principal at a high school in suburban Denver, he couldn’t have expected to face the things he did in the years ahead.

DeAngelis faced the horror that was the Columbine massacre a few years into the job.

And now, as he has more than weathered that storm and its wake, he’s set to retire.

Fittingly, his final message to Columbine students was one of inspiration — facing your fears, believing in yourself so that others can draw belief from you.

Without a doubt, we may be glimpsing DeAngelis’ approach in bringing a school — and a community — through such dark times.
