Two dead, four injured in Seattle-area school shooting

PHOENIX — A student walked into a Seattle-area high school Friday and fired several rounds, killing one, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Jaylen Fryberg was identified as the shooter by his family, KIRO-TV reported.

Four others were injured in the shooting.

Fryberg fired shots in or near Marysville-Pilchuck High School’s cafeteria about 10:45 a.m. Seattle time.

A police spokesman said they were confident there was only one shooter, but officers continued to clear the school.

The school was placed on lockdown. Students were taken to a nearby church so parents could pick them up.

The school has a school resource officer, but it is unknown if that person was on campus.

News helicopter footage showed the school surrounded by emergency response personnel and vehicles. Students were also seen exiting buildings with their hands raised.

Marysville is located about 25 miles north of Seattle.
