Taylor Swift donates $50K to young Arizona girl with cancer

Jul 8, 2015, 10:29 AM | Updated: 10:29 am

PHOENIX — Music star Taylor Swift made a sick Arizona girl’s day when she donated $50,000 to her online cancer fund on Tuesday.

Naomi Oakes, an 11-year-old from the Phoenix area, was diagnosed with leukemia after she noticed a lot of bruises on her body. She has been undergoing intense therapy.

Because of her treatment, Oakes has to miss Swift’s August concert date in the Valley.

Her family posted a video about her story, set to the singer’s “Bad Blood,” hoping to get Swift’s attention. The most they wanted was the singer to retweet the hashtag #TeamNaomi.

They got a lot more than a tweet. Swift donated $50,000 to Oakes’ GoFundMe page and left a message for the young girl.

“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts,” Swift wrote. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”

Swift is no stranger to the cancer fight. Her mother was diagnosed in April.

We want to hear from you.
