Sedona rebounds: Disaster relief for local businesses
The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued a disaster declaration for Sedona and surrounding communities impacted by the Pocket Fire, making low-interest loans available to small businesses and nonprofits.
According to a Greater Sedona Chamber of Commerce survey, more than 70% of local businesses have seen revenue decline by at least 10% compared with last year.
"Sedona is open for business," says Greater Sedona Chamber of Commerce President David Key. He says the off-season is a great time to visit, despite a dip in tourism following the fire. While Oak Creek Canyon and some hiking trails remain closed, hundreds of miles of trails are still open.
Tourism is a major economic driver for Sedona, generating roughly $1 billion annually and accounting for about 75% of the city's tax revenue.
