Arizona is facing a teacher shortage, with underqualified teachers and vacancies affecting education across the state. Now, elected officials and teachers are looking for ways to correct the retention issue — including improving pay, benefits and non-financial support — and stabilize Arizona’s education system.

Gov. Katie Hobbs told reporters in July that she has tried to address the issue by creating an educator retention task force. She added that Arizona public schools were still fully funded in this fiscal year’s budget despite Prop 123 not being renewed, but emphasized it was still a priority for her to fight for a Prop 123 renewal.
