Vietnam jails official who put porn on gov’t site

Feb 28, 2012, 10:02 AM

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) – A court in Vietnam has sentenced an official to two years in prison after he posted pornographic photos on a provincial government website.

State media says Phan Ngoc Quan was convicted Monday of “illegally accessing” Tra Vinh province’s website. The verdict didn’t mention pornography.

Thanh Nien newspaper reported Tuesday that a police investigation found Quan uploaded pornography to the website in 2010 and 2011. The report said Quan confessed to the charge.

Court officials in the southern province were not immediately available for comment.

Vietnamese law says it is illegal to trade or disseminate “depraved cultural items” but doesn’t list examples.

The government periodically imprisons people who run pornography websites.
