PHOENIX — Halloween is days away, which means there’s still plenty of time to get into the spooky mood.

While haunted houses may be enough to make you jump, there’s one place in Arizona that will absolutely scare the socks off of you: Yuma Territorial Prison.

According to Thrillist, Yuma Territorial Prison was the best place in Arizona to scare yourself because it was also one of the most haunted spots in Arizona.

The prison opened in 1875 while Arizona was still a U.S. territory and housed prisoners while they served sentences that ranged from murder to polygamy.

It was under continuous labor done by the prisoners until the last prisoner left in 1909. Today, the prison operates as a historical museum called Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park.

According to Thrillist, more than 100 inmates died in the prison during its 34-year run. One of the cells — Cell 14 — has been reported to be haunted after an inmate doing time for “crimes against nature” killed himself.

So if you’re looking to be more adventurous this Halloween, venture down to Yuma.

And if you are really looking to go all out this holiday, some other spooky spots include Heaven’s Gate mass suicide site in California and Bonnie Springs Ranch in Nevada.

We want to hear from you.
