STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) – A 10-year-old boy is recovering at his mother’s home from cuts and bruises suffered in a car accident after he called 911 and threatened to jump from the vehicle because his father was driving under the influence.
The father, 49-year-old Owen Gilman of Warwick, R.I., was free on $250,000 bond after being arraigned Thursday on charges including driving under the influence and assault with a motor vehicle.
A call to a phone number listed for him went unanswered Friday morning.
Police say Gilman rear-ended a Jeep driven by 23-year-old Michael Pernick of Marston Mills, Mass., on Interstate 95 in Stonington, Conn., on Wednesday night. Mills was hospitalized in fair condition.
Gilman’s ex-wife, Jacqueline Gilman, tells The Day of New London that the boy and his 12-year-old sister were “doing good, considering.”
