SAN LUIS, Ariz. — A woman has been arrested, charged with trying
to smuggle more than 56 pounds of methamphetamine into southern Arizona through
the San Luis Port.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Luz Garcia, 26, was
taken into custody early Thursday.

CBP officers referred Garcia for a secondary inspection of her vehicle and a
search turned up 50 packages of methamphetamine inside the sedan’s firewall.

Authorities said Garcia was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Information on her hometown wasn’t immediately available and federal
authorities didn’t know whether she had a lawyer yet.

They said the drugs and vehicle were processed for seizure.
