Walgreens moving Tempe offices, hiring nearly 200 in Chandler

PHOENIX — Pharmacy company Walgreens announced Tuesday that it would move its Tempe offices to Chandler and hire nearly 200 more employees.
In a press release, the company said it planned to open a 60,000-square-foot pharmacy operations support center near Price and Germann Roads. The facility is expected to open in the fall.
“The new facility will support Walgreens retail pharmacies around the country by performing tasks that allow pharmacy staff in stores to spend more time providing trusted service to patients,” Rex Swords, Walgreens vice president of pharmacy and retail operations planning, said in the release.
Workers at the Chandler facility will include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and specialists such as call center agents.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey applauded the move, saying it benefits nearly everyone involved.
“This project will not only create hundreds of new, high-value job opportunities in the East Valley, but will also provide excellent pharmaceutical services for our citizens,” he said in the release.
The company said the jobs it will add will meet or exceed the median wage in Maricopa County.
“This investment by Walgreens contributes to a growing technology and health cluster here in Chandler, adding to an already dynamic local economy,” Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny said in the release. “We look forward to developing a strong relationship with Walgreens as they ramp up operations in the city.”
