MARICOPA, Ariz. (AP) — The bodies of a man and a woman believed to be a couple missing for more than a week have been recovered from a property near their home about 35 miles south of Phoenix.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu says officers arrested 38-year-old Jose Valenzuela and booked him into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. No information about a motive was immediately released.
Forty-four-year-old Michael Careccia and his 42-year-old wife, Tina, have not been seen since they drove away from their home in Maricopa about 5 a.m. June 22. A search began after the man’s son reported them missing that night.
The couple’s abandoned car was later found covered in dirt about a half-mile away from their home.
Details are expected to be released at a news conference scheduled for midday Thursday.
