Missing man had left Penn St. but claimed he was graduating

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A man who told his parents he was set to graduate from Penn State when he wasn’t even enrolled has been reported missing.
Jon Steindorf’s parents drove to State College to pick him up for what they thought was his commencement, police said. The 23-year-old wasn’t at his apartment Friday and wouldn’t answer his cellphone.
His parents said Steindorf told them he finished his studies in the fall and had delayed his graduation until spring.
“We thought he’d graduate … but the most recent information we received was he was not on the list to graduate,” Steindorf’s father, Paul, told the Centre Daily Times. “Apparently he wasn’t enrolled this fall.”
Police say they checked out several reported sightings but have yet to confirm them or find Steindorf. The man’s roommate was the last person to see him at around 11:30 a.m. Friday.
The search was continuing Monday. His parents do not suspect foul play.
“For us, the greatest thing would be to see him walk down the street and come in the door,” Paul Steindorf told the newspaper. “That’s what everyone is interested in. We love him, and we want him back home.”
