Main Street Minute: Phoenix Fire hosting career day

KTAR’s Main Street Minute focuses on local businesses that are hiring, opening and hosting events across the community. These stories air each weekday at 7:23 a.m.

• The Phoenix Fire Department is hosting a career fair Saturday. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at its training academy near 24th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

• Famous Footwear is giving away shoes Saturday to the first 100 people who show up at the Metro Towne Center store. The retailer is celebrating the site’s grand opening. The giveaway at Peoria and 31st avenues applies to anyone 18 or older.

• A popular pizza joint is expanding in the Valley. Mod Pizza is opening Friday near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee. This is the ninth Mod location in the Phoenix area. Two more stores are slated to open in the summer.
