Watch: House panel hearings resume on Jan. 6 attack at US Capitol

Jun 16, 2022, 9:55 AM

The U.S. House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol continues hearings Thursday morning.

The session is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

It’s the third in a series of hearings set to take place over several weeks that began with with a prime-time session a week ago, in which the nine-member panel gave an overview of its 11-month inquiry.

A hearing scheduled Wednesday with testimony from former Justice Department offices was postponed.

More than 1,000 people have been interviewed by the panel, and only snippets of that testimony had been revealed to the public, mostly through court filings.

The inquiry has so far been divided into a series of focus areas, including the financing and organizing of rallies in Washington that took place before the attack; security failures by Capitol Police and federal agencies; and the actions of the rioters.

Thursday’s session is aimed at President Donald Trump’s last-ditch effort to salvage the 2020 election by pressuring Vice President Mike Pence to reject the electoral count in the run-up to the riot.

“What President Trump demanded that Mike Pence do wasn’t just wrong, it was illegal and it was unconstitutional,” Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., committee co-chair, said in her opening statement last week.
