PHOENIX — Democrats could regain control of the Senate during the November general election because of some voter’s reactions to Donald Trump, a political analyst said.

Mike O’Neil said he sees 47 Republican seats and 47 Democratic seats as locks.

“There are six toss-up elections and the Democrats are ahead in five of them,” he said. “I mean they’re really, really razor thin toss-ups, all with the potential to go either way.”

O’Neil said Trump is an albatross for Republicans trying to keep their senate seats.

“A Republican candidate can embrace Donald Trump and they take on his negatives or they reject Trump and anger the Trump supporters,” he said.

A poll of likely voters from Monmouth University has Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain with a 10-point lead in the race over Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick.
