Police: Southern Calif. baby wasn’t abandoned

Feb 21, 2012, 11:43 PM

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say a newborn baby girl wasn’t abandoned outside a Southern California gas station as originally thought.

Long Beach police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani says investigators believe 28-year-old Paloma Espinoza gave birth to the baby and gave her newborn to Sonia Hernandez, who claimed she found the baby.

Hernandez is Espinosa’s mother.

Hernandez told police the baby was discovered around 7:30 p.m. Monday outside a USA Gas station near downtown Long Beach. The baby was taken to a hospital, where her vital signs were stable.

City News Service reports that police now think the baby was born several hours before the 911 call was made.

Espinoza faces possible charges of child abandonment and child endangerment. Hernandez faces a possible charge of filing a false police report.

Interest rates may have peaked. Should you buy a CD, high-yield savings account, or a fixed annuity?

Interest rates are the highest they’ve been in decades, and it looks like the Fed has paused hikes. This may be the best time to lock in rates for long-term, low-risk financial products like fixed annuities.
