Forcing silence on candidates’ rape opinions

I have an extremely serious request for all male candidates currently running for any political office anywhere in the United States.

I’m fully aware that, in this country, freedom of speech is one of our most sacred and protected rights. Our right to express an opinion on a soapbox, online or on the air is not to be compared with any society that currently exists on the face of the Earth.

With that in mind, I will listen with respect, if not always agreement, to your views on immigration, global warming, the state of the economy and the economy in your state. As you run your campaigns, fellas, please feel free to offer your position on any subject but one: rape.

The idiocy of Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin and now Pennsylvania Senate candidate Tom Smith, comparing impregnation by a rapist with unwed motherhood, brings me to this sincere request.

Guys, unless you’ve been sexually assaulted, just shut the hell up!
