Bomb threat halts flight at Calif. airport

May 9, 2012, 5:21 AM

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say a plane was inspected following a bomb threat at John Wayne Airport in Southern California but nothing suspicious was found.

Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Joe Balicki tells the Orange County Register (
http://bit.ly/KE4Jm8) that the threat was received at about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday and the plane was held in isolation at the airport.

The exact nature of the threat or how authorities received it was not immediately clear.

An airport spokeswoman says the flight involved was Southwest Airlines Flight 811. It was scheduled to go to Phoenix.

Balicki says the plane was getting ready to taxi from the gate and authorities managed to stop it and isolate it.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says the bureau is investigating whether there is a link to a separate threat to a plane in Phoenix.
