CONWAY, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a 17-year-old baby sitter has been arrested after slipping an anti-anxiety drug into the lunch of a 4-year-old girl she was watching to calm the child down and get her to take a nap.
Investigators said the teen was watching the child New Year’s Eve in Little River. She called the girl’s mother after the 4-year-old started to fall several times and complained of being dizzy.
Authorities say the woman took her daughter to the doctor, and a blood test found the anti-anxiety medicine in her system. She has since recovered.
The teen was charged Thursday with unlawful neglect of a child and is awaiting a bond hearing in jail. It wasn’t clear whether the teen had an attorney.
