Tohono O'odham Nation leader critiques Quitobaquito Springs border project
"I would never go into your home and destroy it. I would never go into your cemeteries and blow them up."
About 20 armed and masked federal agents entered the Tohono O'odham Nation while escorting border wall contractors who were there to begin construction, according to the tribe.
Meanwhile, a second wall is being built just yards from the existing border wall at Quitobaquito Springs. The sacred site, which is home to endangered species found nowhere else in the United States, is in danger of being destroyed.
Although a federal judge denied the tribe's request to block the work, the Tohono O'odham Nation and local residents continue to push back against construction at the springs and on tribal land.
"My message to the Trump administration is: Stop this wall from being built," says Tohono O'odham Nation Chairman Verlon Jose. He and U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva are advocating for the tribe. Watch for more.
