PHOENIX – A Glendale couple was arrested Friday in connection the murder of an abused former lover, authorities said.

The Glendale Police Department charged 28-year-old Brandon Kimbell with one count of first-degree murder and 29-year-old Stephanie Kimbell with one count of tampering with evidence and one count of hindering an investigation in the death of 27-year-old Brittany Hand.

Glendale police said that just after midnight, officers responded to an apartment near 52nd Avenue and Thunderbird Road to find Hand unresponsive with Brandon Kimbell kneeling beside her.

A female caller, who was later identified Stephanie Kimbell, told police an unknown woman came to her apartment door and collapsed.

Through the investigation, officers were able to collect evidence contrary to the initial story presented by the Kimbells.

Police said Brandon Kimbell killed the victim using physical force and Stephanie Kimbell assisted her husband with destroying physical evidence.

Officers discovered Hand lived with the couple for several months in an abusive relationship.

Officers attempted life saving measures before Hand was taken to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
