One person dead, another seriously injured after early-morning shooting in Scottsdale

One person has died, and another was left seriously injured after a shooting early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1:25 a.m. near Scottsdale and Camelback roads.

Authorities said the shooting is believed to have stemmed from two physical fights in front of two different nightclubs around 1 a.m. and 1:15 a.m.

Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries due to the shooting. One person has died, while another is in critical condition but is improving, police said.

A suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jeremy La’Twan Campbell Jr., was arrested Sunday in connection with the shooting. He was booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. 

Following an investigation, police said Campbell is the only suspect in the shooting, and no additional suspects are being looked into related to the incident. A handgun was found in a pool at a Best Western hotel near the south side of Camelback Road. The gun is being tested to determine whether it was involved in the case.

There is no outstanding threat to the community, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
