Michael D’Angelo Wright, 32, has several of his music videos posted on his Facebook page.
“Mr. Wright was known as ‘Rick James’. He was a rapper,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild. “He had performed at various clubs on the west side of Phoenix.”
At 3 o’clock in the morning, Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, officers were called to Mr. Wright’s home near Thomas Road and 76th Avenue. They found him lying outside of his car in his driveway.
Sgt. Rothschild says, “It was obvious that he had been shot and we’re hoping someone either has information about who did it or what led up to the shooting or maybe has video from home surveillance cameras.”

Next, another deadly driveway shooting in another part of town — completely unrelated. Late Monday night, May 20, 2019, 53-year-old Kenneth Hendricks and his wife were in their driveway near 16th Street north of Southern Avenue.
“He was repairing a friend’s vehicle,” says Sgt. Rothschild. “At some point, our suspect came up and began to shoot not only at Mr. Hendricks but also at his wife. She survived her injuries, but unfortunately, he didn’t.”
Investigators don’t know who the gunman is or why he opened fire on the couple.
