Amtrak, MARC delayed after derailment

Nov 19, 2013, 1:54 PM

BALTIMORE (AP) – Amtrak and some MARC commuter rail service is delayed between Baltimore and Washington after an Amtrak train derailed overnight.

Amtrak says the line was closed briefly Tuesday morning to allow a crane to remove the train that derailed Monday night, but all tracks have reopened.

Amtrak spokesman Steven Kulm says trains have been delayed up to 30 minutes, but delays are expected to diminish as congestion clears.

Maryland Transit Administration says MARC’s Penn line trains were delayed up to 60 minutes Tuesday and at least one was canceled. Metro is honoring MARC tickets Tuesday.

Amtrak says the Silver Meteor from New York to Miami became disabled Monday in a tunnel south of Baltimore. No passengers were injured. Service was restored but delayed while trains shared one track through the area.
