2 vehicles swept away in floodwaters north of Phoenix amid thunderstorms

Rescue crews are on the scene in the north Valley after two vehicles were swept away in floodwaters on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

One person apparently safely exited one of the vehicles near 14th Street and Carefree Highway in New River, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and firefighters are trying to find the other vehicle, MCSO said.

Widespread thunderstorms created hazardous driving conditions across the Valley on Tuesday morning. Most of the state is under a flood watch.

A flash flood warning was issued for the Cave Creek area until 9:30 a.m.
