SR 87 reopens northeast of metro Phoenix after vehicle fire

The highway between Payson and Fountain Hills was closed temporarily near Sunflower on Friday afternoon.

State Route 87 was closed temporarily northeast of metro Phoenix after a Friday afternoon vehicle fire, authorities said.

The closure lasted about an hour on southbound SR 87 at milepost 216 south of Sunflower, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The roadway, which is also known as the Beeline Highway, reopened around 1:30 p.m.

The northbound lanes were not affected by the vehicle fire.

Sunflower is a community about 30 miles northeast of Fountain Hills along the route between Payson and the Valley.
